About Us
As the nation’s capital, Washington has been the center of the Ethiopian community for the last 40 years.
But it was in 2011 that a group of Ethiopian expatriates got together privately with friends and established the Ethiopian Literary & Cultural Awareness Association in Silver Spring, Maryland. Their goal was to add a personal face to Montgomery County Public Library, Silver Spring branch a collection of Amharic book in the circulation of the public library system.
ኢስባማማ ተልዕኮ
የኢትዮጵያ ስነጽሑፍና ባሕል ማስተዋወቂያ ማህበር (ኢስባማማ) ዓላማው ሀገራችን ያላትን ስነጽሑፍ ሥራዎች በሰሜን አሜሪካ በሚገኙ የሕዝብ ቤተ መፃሕፍት ሁሉ አካል እንዲሆኑና ፤ በዚሁ በሰሜን አሜሪካ ያለው የሀገራችን ሕብረተሰብ በቀላሉ ተጠቃሚ እንዲሆን፤ ከዚህም አልፎ ልጆቻችን ስለ ሀገራቸው እንዲማሩ፣ እንዲያውቁና በማንነታቸው ልባዊ ኩራት ተሰምቷቸው እንዲያድጉ ነው።
ከዚህም በተጨማሪ የኢትዮጵያን ታሪክ ፤ ሙዚቃ ፤ ስነጽሑፎችንና የምሥል ሥራዎችን በቤተ መፃሕፍቶች አዳራሽ ውስጥ ለማስተዋወቅና፤ ለልጆቻችን የሀገራችንን መፃሕፍቶች የማንበብ ችሎታ እንዲኖራቸው ለማድረግ ነው።
Our Mission
- To strengthen Ethiopian Literary & Cultural life in America.
- To promote and develop planning and co-operation mainly in the areas of education, heritage, culture and social welfare of Ethiopians and Ethiopian-Americans.
- To co-ordinate activities, programs and events, exchange information, and share expertise, ideas and co-operation between various Ethiopian community organizations across America.
- To identify and share best practices as between Ethiopian community organizations and individuals.
- To assist in coordinating the activities of Ethiopian identity, education, welfare, heritage and culture.
